Marathon City Heritage Center

About the Heritage Center:

The vision to open the Marathon City Heritage Center was an initiative of the Marathon City 2020, Ltd. In 2017, the committee was gifted property from Peoples State Bank consisting of an 1,800 square foot former branch office building and lot at the corner of Second and Main streets in Marathon that is now the permanent location for the center.

The Heritage Center serves as a historical and education site to collect Marathon City’s cultural and historical assets, records, artifacts, data and stories so they are inventoried, protected and preserved, and shared with the community and public. The center is a vibrant resource for Marathon City where people celebrate community pride and share the history and continued growth of the Village and the surrounding area.

Through a collaboration between the Marathon County Historical Society and the Marathon City 2020 Ltd. Committee, many of the center’s initial collections have been on loan from the Marathon County Historical Society.

Hours:

The Heritage Center is open from Noon to 2:00pm the second Sunday of each month between October and April, and the first Sunday in May, or by appointment for private tours and events. Volunteers:

Volunteers staff the center during open hours and help with exhibits and events. Anyone is welcome to become a volunteer; training will be provided.  If you’re interested in volunteering or supporting the Heritage Center, contact a Marathon City 2020 committee member. Exhibit Contributions:

The Heritage Center welcomes contributions from the community to be considered for exhibit. We seek and accept contributions from individuals and businesses that include memorabilia about the Village of Marathon City and its residents.  Items may be donated or loaned for a limited time. All materials will be pre-approved and registered with the Heritage Center before they are added to exhibits. Additionally, the center seeks to capture personal stories through videos and oral histories, so they are inventoried, preserved, and shared with the community and public. Exhibit materials and story ideas may be brought to the Heritage Center during open hours or send inquiries to info@marathoncity2020.com.
